Key Architecture
L1 Interaction Key
Understand the L1 Interaction Key - your standard Solana keypair for signing transactions, paying fees, and controlling public funds on the blockchain.
Overview
The L1 Interaction Key is a standard Ed25519 keypair-the same type of keypair used by any Solana wallet. It serves as your identity on the L1 blockchain and authorizes all on-chain transactions.
What It Does
This keypair enables you to:
- Sign transactions on your behalf
- Control funds in your wallet and associated accounts
- Authorize operations for any program interactions, including Umbra
Security Implications
As with any blockchain keypair:
| Scenario | Consequence |
|---|---|
| Key is lost | You permanently lose access to your funds |
| Key is compromised | An attacker can drain your wallet and take control of your assets |
There is no recovery mechanism. Whoever holds the private key has full control.
Best Practices
- Backup securely - store your seed phrase or private key in a safe location
- Use hardware wallets for significant holdings
- Never share your private key with anyone
